Unibap and Northvolt enter a partnership

Northvolt Revolt AB and Unibap AB (Publ) has entered a partnership to develop a solution for automated disassembly of batteries and thereby support the recycling of batteries from electric cars. The collaboration is to begin immediately, with the ambition to implement a working solution at Northvolt facilities in the coming few years.

The purpose of the solution is to achieve efficient, cost-effective disassembly of batteries, whilst at the same time enable significant improvements to the work environment. The collaboration will involve research and development of automation technologies, mechanics, and business development of the solution.

Northvolt Revolt has extensive expertise in advanced battery technology as well as recycling and sustainability. The company is currently establishing large-scale recycling capacity in northern Sweden, which is positioned to secure Northvolt's ambition of sourcing 50% of material needs for battery production from recycling by 2030.

- We are very excited and proud to be working together with Northvolt in developing new technology for recycling of batteries. Over the next couple of years when the generations of electric cars are to be replaced the volume of batteries that need to be recycled will increase dramatically, and there will be a great need for safe and efficient solutions. A successful completion of this development project I believe has the potential of bringing great future business opportunities for Unibap. The collaboration is in line with our new strategy in the industrial area, with a greater focus on scalable solutions and OEM customers, says Anders Blomberg, CEO of Unibap.
