Unibap will be part of FMV's and the Danish Ministry of Defense's space project Bifrost, which will develop satellite technology with the help of AI

As previously announced (press release August 21, 2022), Unibap has been in dialogue with an industrial consortium to be part of project Bifrost. In December 2022, Unibap also received an order from FMV, the Swedish Defense Materiel Administration, for a SpaceCloud computer in the iX5 family with associated services (press release December 22, 2022).

FMV and the Danish Ministry of Defense have now signed a cooperation agreement on a joint space project. The project, called Bifrost, is a demonstrator project that aims to study and develop satellite technology using AI. The project is a collaboration between the two countries' defense authorities, industry, and research institutes.

The project will design and build a satellite that will carry out in-orbit tests of space-based AI for real-time processing of sensor data. The satellite will have multiple sensors and will use AI technology to rapidly process and sort large amounts of data. While the satellite is in orbit, the AI technology will be tested, evaluated, and adjusted to see how it can be optimized. Unibap supplies a SpaceCloud computer with associated software adapted to process data from the satellites' various sensors. During the project, Unibap also contributes with expertise regarding application development and AI on board the satellite.

- We are happy to be part of the project as Unibap is at the absolute forefront when it comes to providing Cloud Computing and intelligent data processing on board satellites. We have with several demonstrations proven the functionality of SpaceCloud and our iX5 family computers in orbit. As a result, we see a significant increase in market interest in our offering of edge computing in space, says Johan Åman, CEO.
